Trendy Skirts for Tall Women - Spring 2010

Summer Fashion for Tall Women

JUNEANN REED
Being tall and having long legs, often gives us an advantage to looking great in skirts. So, check out the back of your closet or go shopping and pick up a skirt or two to add to your wardrobe. Perhaps a good choice for you would be to pick out one fun, trendy skirt and another basic neutral skirt that could mix and match with many tops already in your closet.

Suggestions for this year also include large or small floral. If you aren't brave enough to don one of the large bright floral prints, pick out a smaller floral print and accessorize it with bold colors.

Whether you shop Walmart or a high-end boutique or if you're looking for a jeans skirt or pretty floral, skirts are on the racks for tall women this year.

A pencil thin denim skirt may be your style.
Jeans skirts vary widely in price and style - from plain to fancy stitching, pockets, snaps and fabric. For a great spring/summer casual look, team a slim denim skirt with a lacy white blouse. Add some colorful spring shoes and you can go from work to play feeling very comfortable wherever you are.

Maybe you prefer a very short skirt, to the knee, calf length or a long skirt.
I found every style with varieties within the styles. Just remember, as you age, the very short skirts may not be the best for you. Tall women can pull-off the mid calf look with distinction. Top a colorful or basic color skirt with a unique shirt and belt. Belts are one of the quickest and easiest ways to make you look thinner. Different sizes [skinny, thick, think, wide], textures, colors and locations of belts can change the look of your skirt - and your entire outfit.

Flowing skirts look great on everyone.
They follow the body but do not cling. A great skirt for a tall person would be mostly solid with a floral or geometric pattern going up one side. One of my favorites is a longer straight skirt with bottom fullness. The curve of the skirt bottom softens your look and is very feminine.

Skirts can actually be more comfortable than pants when it's very hot.
A loose-fitting skirt with a short top feel and look good. Add a topper shirt or sweater for cool indoor temps or a cooler day.

Just because we're tall, not everyone feels comfortable in the same style skirt.
Try to not have the garment [skirt, shirt, jacket] end at your worst fashion point. If you know your calves aren't your best point, don't wear a calf-length skirt. If you want to slim down the look of your hips, probably a pleated skirt with a heavy fabric aren't great choices. If you have great ankles, perhaps a long flowing skirt with cute sandals would make you look and feel special.

Of course be sure you check that your skirt is well-made, but fun, trendy summer skirts can be purchased most everywhere. You will find them in any size and without a huge choice of price ranges. Skirts are often easier to find for those of us who are tall than the correct length of pants. Just take a look in the mirror to be sure your entire outfit goes together and looks well on you. Trendy for adult women does not always mean the current outfit your teen daughter or granddaughter is wearing. But, it also doesn't mean it's the same outfit you wore ten years ago. Fashion houses update clothing to meld with current events and settings within our culture. Try to buy something new every year so your wardrobe doesn't get shabby and very out of date.

A couple of suggestions for pretty long skirts follow.

Just do it! Build the new spring you with a couple of trendy skirts that will fit well with the wardrobe you already have and are looking to move into 2010 and beyond.
