Trent Edwards, Terrell Owens, and the Buffalo Bills, Ready to Fight for AFC East Title

Vonda Menard
The Buffalo Bills are optimistic that this year they can compete in the competitive AFC East. Terrell Owens joins his fourth team ready to prove Dallas made a mistake when they sent him packing. Owens joins Lee Evans, Roscoe Parrish, James Hardy and Josh Reed. With these receivers, the Bills offense has reason to be optimistic, they just need Edwards to be a consistent leader.

Edwards started last season well. Taking over the starting job from J.P. Losman, Edwards play early on lead many to believe the coaching staff made the right decision. Before the week five game against Arizona, in which Edwards was knocked out with a concussion, the Bills were 4-0. After the injury, the Bills would loose 9 out of their remaining 12 games. Last year Edwards didn't have a game in which he passed for over 300 yards, and in six of the games he didn't top the 200 yard mark. Adding a receiver of Terrell Owens caliber should improve Edwards numbers as well as Lee Evans, the receiver who'll play opposite of Owens.

Edwards is a young quarterback, beginning only his third season and his second as a starter. While his passing game should improve with the addition of Owens, the Bills will be without Marshawn Lynch for the beginning of the season. Lynch is suspended for the first three games of the year . Unfortunately for the Bills, their first game is a Monday night game against division foes, the New England Patriots.

The Bills offense won't be as threatening without Lynch. It will be important for the Bills and specifically Trent Edwards, to get off to a good start against New England. Trent Edwards could have a career year if he's able to stay healthy. After the Monday night game against the Patriots, the Bills face Tampa Bay and New Orleans, before facing another divisional opponent, Miami Dolphins. Maybe this is the year the Bills battle for the AFC East title.
