If you are looking to see a great baseball game for a good price, look no farther than the Trenton Thunder (AA farm team for the Yankees). With tickets ranging from 5-10 dollars each, you will get more than your money's worth. Every game has a large amount of activities between innings, some games have giveaways to those who arrive early and every game on Thursdays and Saturdays have fireworks after the game. You can also see the players after the game at the dugout, in fact my family has received at least three balls and two bats (yes they gave us two real wooden bats) in the approximately ten times we've been out to see the Trenton Thunder.
The Trenton Thunder started out as the farm team for the Detroit Tigers in 1994, but after one year affiliated itself with the Boston Red Sox. After 8 years as the farm team for the Boston Red Sox, Trenton switched allegiances again to be the farm team for the New York Yankees. In 2006 Trenton became the first minor league team to have over 400,000 attend for 12 consecutive seasons.
Every game between innings there are activities on the field while the pitcher warms up. These activities range from races around the base-path against Boomer (the Trenton Thunder Mascot) to t-shirt giveaway. There is also a concourse level with different food and drink vendors, and a mediocre gift shop. The cheese steaks and cheese fries are quite good. Although there are no refills on a $4.75 soda (not like you really expected any though), the prices are significantly cheaper overall than those at a MLB game for equal or even worse food than that available at a Thunder game.
The games are very action packed and exciting. You still have pitcher's duels but you won't get them as often as in the majors, most of the games I've been too at least one team has scored 3 or more runs. Just recently a game I went to started with an eight run first inning (rare, most games aren't just slugfests) by the other team, but in the 6th inning the Thunder scored 6 runs, getting a couple of people on base then hitting a three run home-run. The Thunder then went on to lose the game as they couldn't score the other two runs they needed to win. You won't be disappointed when going to a Trenton Thunder game by the team's playing abilities.
A Trenton Thunder game would make a great birthday party, group outing, family day, or even a business outing.
