Tribute to Dr. Seuss

Steve Graham
The pen will not work,

the keys will not fly.

Some days I can't write

no matter how hard I try

Those days I'm reminded

I'm no Theodore Geisel

(The only rhyme here

would be Saudi king Faisal)

I've long been a writer,

a nonfiction storyteller,

I doubt I will pen

a beloved bestseller.

Even if I could rhyme

and cartoon from scratch,

I know that Geisel

I truly could never match.

They called Geisel Suess

and no doctorate he had,

But he gave us great medicine

When we were feeling sad.

To Geisel, on his birthday,

I take off my hat

Even though he will

Likely put it on a cat
