On our first visit my husband decided to try their Hot Meatball Wedge. The Hot Meatball Wedge consists of homemade meatballs, homemade marinara sauce, mozzarella cheese, and parmesan sprinkled on top. My husband is a big fan of the meatball sub and after reading rave reviews of this sub sandwich at Tribute's he just had to give it a try. We didn't talk much during that meal. In fact I believe that I heard it was the best meatball sub sandwich my husband ever had (besides mine of course). The sauce was as delicious as the homemade meatballs. It is quite the sandwich and it will easily fill you up. Tribute's Hot Meatball Wedge has received other rave reviews and in fact I found more reviews of this sandwich than the other sandwiches in this shop.
So what did I have? Pizza, of course. I love pizza and when I read about how good their pizza was I had to try it out. I decided to start out with a slice of pepperoni pizza. What I got was a thin, but not crunchy, crust which is the way I like my pizza crust to be. Tribute's restaurant has five different choices of pizza by the slice which include pepperoni, cheese, combo, Sicilian white, and Sicilian meat. The sauce had the perfect amount of sweetness in my opinion. It is hard to find a sauce that isn't overly sweet or not sweet enough. This pizza makes me want to take a weekly trip downtown for lunch. It's not overly fancy which is a positive. I loved the slice of pepperoni so much that I went up to have another slice. But be warned the pizza sometimes goes fast. When I went up for another slice of pepperoni I was told that the pepperoni was sold out and I would have to wait another fifteen minutes before the next one would be done. Still hungry and not wanting to wait I opted for the combo. The combo is covered in pepperoni, thinly sliced mushrooms, and crumbled sausage. I am not a lover of mushrooms so I thought I would take them off before eating. Instead I left them on and vowed to never have another slice of plain pepperoni at Tribute's again.
This weekend I surprised my husband with a return visit to Tribute's. I knew he was dying to try their authentic Philly Cheesesteak sub sandwhich. When he ordered he opted for the hot sauce for dipping which was an additional fifty cents. My husband was a little weary as he has never had hot sauce with a Philly Cheesesteak sandwich before. The verdict? He loved it. He said that the sauce made the sandwich unique and really added to the overall flavor and deliciousness of the sandwich.
Even my kids loved the food at Tribute's. They shared a pickle which was slightly crunchy and sweet. They also had a slice of pepperoni each which they quickly devoured without uttering one word of complaint.
So if you find yourself in downtown Portland make a trip to the Alphabet district for some delicious sub sandwiches and pizza at Tribute's. You won't be sorry.
