Trick or Treaters

A Halloween Haiku

Jim Kelly
As the leaves turn brown
And mystery fills the air
And the sun goes down

Children become ghosts
Fairies, angles, demons, and
What they love the most

Door to door they go
Asking for a trick or treat
Sometimes getting both

Their bags fill up quick
With candy and lollipops
To go home and lick

Pumpkins greet each kid
As they walk up to each house
Jack-o-lantern's grin

The night moves so fast
It is way past their bedtime
They want it to last

They arrive back home
With pillowcases of treats
The goblin and gnome

Dump out their nights take
And trade Twizzler's for Reese's
And pick, choose, and take

When its said and done
They rest their heads on pillows
And dream of their fun

Just wait till next year
They think as they start to sleep
Just wait till next year.
