Tricks Happy People Use to Create Luck
It's Not What Happens to You, It's How You React to What Happens
Maybe it's because I've gotten older, maybe it's the ways in which I've seen the universe reward happiness, kindness, and tenacity but either way my feeling on the topic of luck has changed.
I have been fortunate enough to know a few truly, unwaveringly happy and positive people, people who no matter what, things go their way, and it is in knowing them that I've learned some of their secrets.
Happy and lucky people don't view anything in terms of the negative and know that there is a law of odds present in every life scenario. Sales statistics used to say that for every 15 calls, you would get 1 yes. If you put it in general terms and overestimate the negative to presume that for every 100 no's you will get 1 yes, you begin to see the tenacity required to achieve luck. Apply this to any situation and it will begin to offer up some clarity.
When applying for a job, you should expect to apply to at least 15 places before you get one taker for even an interview. Those who seem to buck those odds have probably unbeknownst to you had extensive experience applying at other times in their life in order to know exactly what is expected. If you expect to see results before putting in the hard work, you are not expecting luck but miracles, nothing is handed to anyone. In this particular scenario, if you seem to be having luck that does not match with the law of odds, look at the "lucky" or happy people around you and notice what you are doing differently. Most likely when these "lucky" people are interviewing or applying, they are doing so with their best foot forward and in the mindset that they will get it. This means that any previous "no's" are immediately chucked out the window and erased from memory as though they never happened. It can be as simple as walking in with confidence, a bounce to your step, and a smile on your face.
Think about it in terms of dating. Any given guy you ask will probably tell you that when he goes to a bar he expects to be rejected by at least a handful of women before getting 1 to respond positively to him. There are many different people out there, all with different opinions, likes, dislikes, and approaches to life - why would anyone expect the first person he/she approached to be a perfect, acceptable, or even willing match?
Somehow over the course of a life we come to tally up the rejections and weigh them against the rejections or victories of others (without even knowing the details or back story first) and use that to determine our luck. Whether you believe in luck or fate at all has nothing to do with it, it is there in the subconscious swaying us one way or the other to believe we either can or cannot accomplish any given task.
One way that happy/lucky people continue to do well or rack up good karma is by doing things for others: volunteering, random acts of kindness, whatever it may be. The universe does truly give back any good put into it.
The best thing you can do for yourself is to realize that good luck is created by you by viewing yourself as lucky, by being tenacious and knowing the odds of the universe at the outset, and by forgetting any negative experiences or rejections as quickly as you can, to make room for luck.
