Tricks & Tips for Teething Babies

Teething babies can become quite problematic for the parents, but the one who suffers most is the baby. When your baby is exhibiting crankiness, this could be a sign that the teething process is starting. Baby's teeth usually start coming in by six months, although there are cases that this can occur as early as three months and as late as fourteen months. It also depends whether your baby is a boy or a girl because apparently, girls experience the process sooner than boys do. The total number of deciduous teeth or 'milk' teeth is twenty and it could take several years for all these to come out.

Your baby can show several teething symptoms at one time. Depending on their tolerance for pain, your baby could be fussier than other babies. This is because of the soreness as well as the swelling of the gums before a tooth finally comes in. Usually, it starts three to five days before the teeth will appear and these symptoms disappear as the tooth breaks through the skin. Some lucky parents have babies who are not bothered at all by teething. Should you or someone you know have cranky babies when they start cutting teeth, try these useful tips.

To relieve them from the discomforts during teething, allow your baby to chew on certain objects. Teething rings are good for babies because it relieves the pain they are feeling. There are many types of teething rings on the shelf these days. Some are made to go in the freezer and these seem to work the best due to the coldness. The coldness of the ring will help numb the gums which will give the baby some relief.

Pacifiers will also help teething babies. Babies can chew on the pacifiers which will in turn help relieve some of the pain. They also make pacifiers that you can fill with water. Filling these with water and freezing them will also give the baby some relief.

If the baby is old enough, try giving them a popsicle. The frozen popsicle will numb the baby's gums and that will provide the baby with some relief as well.

Because teething often causes babies to drool a lot, be sure to keep your baby's face dry by wiping it often. Do not wipe too hard though because this could lead to rashes.

There are also gels that you can apply to your baby's gums to give them some relief from the pain of cutting teeth. These are widely available in most drugstores and will range in price.
