Triclosan: Cause of Hypothyroidism?

Is This Pesticide at the Root of the Hypothyroidism Epidemic?

Lisa Kay
What is Triclosan?

Triclosan is a germ-killing chemical added to products we all use multiple times every day of our lives. Products we use that often are bound to have some effect on our bodies and could cause hypothyroidism, as well as cancer.

I have found Triclosan in three products I use(d) several times daily:

*Anti-bacterial liquid hand soap

*Colgate Total Whitening Toothpaste

*Anti-bacterial Dawn Dishwashing liquid.

Fortunately for all of us, triclosan free products are widely available.

How can Triclosan cause hypothyroidism?

Triclosan was registered as a pesticide in 1969.

One way that Triclosan cripples the thyroid is by binding to it and preventing the thyroid gland from being able to use iodine. That's enough of a problem to cause hypothyroidism. If you think your liver will save you, think again. Your liver is already overloaded trying to rid your body of the chemicals other than Triclosan. The liver is also where the conversion of the thyroid hormone T4 to T3 happens. When your liver is already stressed beyond belief, getting adequate thyroid hormone from the conversion can't be happening at an optimal level.

I switched to these safe, Triclosan Free products

CleanWell has a hand sanitizer and pump hand soap that are both alcohol and Triclosan free, safe for kids and kills 99.99% of germs. I can buy CleanWell at Target, WholeFoods or Drugstore.com.

Tom's of Maine toothpaste is among my new choices. You can choose from a full range of triclosan free toothpaste. Tom's toothpaste also comes in flavors for kids. I can buy it at Target, Walgreens or Drugstore.com Seventh Generation is my new choice for Triclosan free dishwashing liquid. This line of non-toxic & biodegradable cleaning products can be found at most stores that carry cleaning products.

Is there any way to detox from Triclosan?

I did a lot of research to find the answer to this question. I didn't find one. Triclosan accumulates in your fat.

What I intend to do:

*Stop using anything that has Triclosan or any chemical in it.

*Eat unprocessed foods, such as vegetables, fruit and lean, organic meat.

*Eliminate sugar.

*Get more sunshine.

*Get more exercise. By doing these things, the Triclosan will likely still be there, along with other chemicals but my system will be stronger, healthier and better able to handle them.

Since I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism in 2005, I need to avoid all the chemicals I can. Hypothyroidism and thyroid cancer are on the rise like never before. It's not surprising when you consider the overwhelming chemicals we have been dealing with since we were conceived.
