Trigger's Remains Go on the Auction Block

On July 14 & 15, 2010 at the famous Christie's Auction House in Manhattan, N.Y. an auction of a different sort is about to take place. Unlike the fine furniture, paintings and jewelry of the rich and famous that Christie's is known for, the centerpiece of this auction is a stuffed and mounted horse, rearing on it's hind legs, lovingly known as Trigger to it's millions of fans.

The auction is selling the memorabilia from the now closed Roy Rogers Museum in Branson, Missouri. The museum closed in Dec. of 2009 in part because of the economy and financial issues according to the Roger's family.

In addition to the remains of the Roy Rogers famous horse Trigger which is expected to sell for a whooping $100,000 to $200,000, another type of horsepower will be auctioned. Roy Rogers 1964 Bonneville convertible adorned with collectible silver dollars and door handles and gear shift that is replaced by silver-plated pistols will also be up for auction and estimated to draw $100,000 to $150,000.

Other museum items that will be auctioned include the preserved remains of Roger's famous dog Bullet, the jeep Nellybelle from the Roy Roger's TV show, Roy Roger's and Dale Evan's performance outfits, cowboy boots, hand-drawn music for the theme song Happy Trails from their TV show, Roy Roger's guitars, jewelry etc.

Christie's auction house has been overwhelmed with calls from everyone including museum representatives to Roy Roger's fans who just a piece of the King of Cowboys.

Roy Roger's, The King of Cowboys passed away in1998 at the age of 87. His beautiful wife, Dale Evans. The Queen of the West passed away in 2001 at the age of 88. Roy Rogers Jr. along with Dustin Roy Rogers will be performing at the Mickey Gilley Theatre in Branson, Missouri, continuing on with Roy Rogers legacy.

It's sad to see this era come to an end. It was a tradition at our house when I was growing up to watch Roy Rogers and Gene Autry westerns on our "black and white" TV.

Wow! My science professor at University had a horse in a large glass case that he called "Trigger". He would even talk to it when he was frustrated with us, so I wonder if he bid on it!

I was madly in love with Roy Rogers, until I found out about Dale Evans. How could he have married someone else? Then, to make matters worse, he went and stuffed his horse and dog! Ugh. I just hope that the poor things wind up in a good home.
