Trimming Time Off of Medical School

Carrie Lowe
Looking towards a future as a medical provider can be a very inspirational dream, but the reality of trying to pay for it can stop many people dead in their tracks. The biggest problem is actually affording the education. Because a medical career involves typically obtaining an undergraduate degree, as well as attending medical school it can be very difficult to afford the educational expenses, as well as still ensure that you have a job that will pay for your living expenses and still leave you time to study.

Trying to cut back on as much time as possible, without giving up your education, or your dreams or finding yourself living in a box is very important. For example, look to some creative ways to cut some of your time off of medical school and you can save yourself thousands of dollars. Add up the cost, in addition to what it would cost if you were getting student loans, and you can see the savings pile up, and your dream come true much sooner.

Looking at ways to take some time off of your undergraduate degree is typically much better idea, and has the greatest impact on your overall ability to cut some time off. The best way to accomplish this is by finding out from your school which classes you are permitted to test out of. In order to benefit from this method, you need to pay a small fee to take a test, which measures your overall knowledge of the material that is covered in the class. If you are able to pass the test, then you receive the credit for the course, and are not required to take it in order to fulfill a degree requirement, thus saving the time that the class would take, as well as the bulk majority of the cost of the class between lab fees, course fees, and even book fees.

You should also consider looking for courses that can double. For instance if you are interested in a double major, search for a course plan that you are interested in that allows 1 class to apply to both degrees. This will ensure that you are able to get the greatest impact for your time, as well as money by getting your course requirements over much sooner, and for less money than you would otherwise be spending.

Cutting back on some minor methods such as this will not harm your education in any way, but allows you to finish up school as much as a year or more sooner. By checking with your school to see about testing out of classes you will find the greatest impact for your finances, schedule and overall education that is available.
