Trip

April Fox
here in the background
under all the misplaced bliss
and sadistic plastic tears
there's something hiding
someone peeking out
and i know better than to
look too hard
better than to try and see the face
behind the yesterdays and
lives forgotten

somewhere in the fog i chased it
caught it held it made it mine and
once i realized where i was
dropped it
walked away
i saw you
floating in the mist
over the lake i saw your faces
all of them
the same
the hanging
drowning
crashing cars and dying
shotguns to the head i saw you
all
and you were gone
before i ever let you go
and here behind the background noise
piano and the hum
of some soft voice in tales of planets
and silent telephones
i have to feel my way through this
i have to walk disoriented blind
through fields of torn-up rabbit skin
of bits of fur and bright red blood stains
watching sticks and shoelace chains
float past me in the dark

there is a light somewhere, i think
there is a reason known to everyone
but us.
