OK, I was Just Plain Scared

I don't know what is so scary about a haunted house. You pay to get in and you know it's not real. You can even tell on most of them where the creepy monsters are going to jump out. But something about the anticipation that builds up within me, and not knowing what the next creepy monster will be is pretty scary. I went to Creepyworld last night in Fenton, MO and was just completely freaked out. My friend, on the other hand was laughing the whole way through.

At Creepyworld, they have so many houses, mazes and rooms, that after about 35 or 40 minutes of walking through the maze of blood and gore, you start to imagine it could be real. The actors were amazing and relentless.

They seemed to ignore those who were laughing at them and prey on the faint of heart. In the first house, a man was walking around with a chainsaw that was really loud. The chainsaw did not have a blade and I could tell by looking at it that it would not hurt me, but my reaction was still intense fear. I actually ran backwards in the maze of rooms until I came across the group behind us and hid behind them hoping he would leave me alone. It was very scary. I don't know if it was the noise or just the idea that it could be real, but I was scared out of my mind.

The website for Creepyworld advertises 4 haunted houses at one location. We tried to decipher where one house ended and the other began, but we really couldn't tell. At best guess, the first house was more like a traditional haunted house and had multiple killers with dead bodies and blood and guts. The second was more like a castle or dungeon theme but wasn't as scary. After the second house, you had to wait in line again and we saw some monsters chasing people with chainsaws. One lady was scared even more than I was. It wasn't funny when they were chasing me, but when I saw the slender, middle- aged blonde with glasses running as fast as she could to mix with the crowd, it was hilarious. I'm still laughing now just thinking about it.

Between what seemed like the 2nd and 3rd house they had a haunted hayride through a ghost town. There was a crazy zombie farmer with a pitchfork who breathed on people. He was more funny than scary. I told him he had bad breath, so he breathed on me even harder and I began to laugh. I realized at that point the key to being left alone was to act as if you weren't scared or laugh at them. I decided to try this tactic through the remaining scenes.

After the hayride, we entered a dark tunnel filled with manufactured fog. It was hard to see even two feet in front of you, so I held on to my friend's coat. He had to feel his way through the maze, but the only monsters we saw were at the very beginning and the very end of the maze. We kept expecting someone or something to jump out at us but it never did.

The last part of the attraction was like a war zone with a massacre in a hospital, a zombie town that included old buses with holes ripped in the side and lots of camouflage netting. There were a lot of military people jumping out that had gone crazy or lost body parts in the war against the zombies.

Overall it was a lot of fun. Some people were scared to death and others laughed. But everyone was entertained and it was well worth the cost of the ticket. I am also glad that I went because they announced on their website Friday that they will be moving the location and wont be back to Fenton next year.
