We have had family and friends who have served or are serving on foreign shores and as a former military spouse I can attest that being away from home can often bring moments of sadness and pain. For some British forces stationed in Afghanistan, a bit of down-time was a chance to record a Youtube video that went viral recently when it was reported in the news. You can watch the video here.
The stars of the video are members of 7 Commando battery, 29 Commando singing to the tune of "Don't Stop Believin."
The Americans also have their fair share of videos on the Internet and one of the favorites is this one. You can watch it here.
There are 24 hours in every day and whether you are in battle or doing battle with the circumstances in your life, I would encourage you to keep on believing that things will change, a new day will bring new hope and you can embrace the approximately 86,400 seconds in any given day and should make the most of every moment. May you find peace.
A simple song or dance can lift the spirits and lighten the moment. Discovery Health reports that, "All types of singing have positive psychological effects. The act of singing releases endorphins, the brain's "feel good" chemicals. Singing in front of a crowd, a la karaoke, naturally builds confidence, which has broad and long-lasting effects on general well-being."
While our troops are singing and dancing in the rare quiet moments on the battlefields, they are actually making themselves (and those of us who watch them perform) feel just a bit better about the awful circumstances that keep them away from home.
The International Day of Peace occurs each year on September 21 and is also known as the World Peace Day. You can watch their video here.
May you find peace.
