Troops Get Kevlar Shield from Writers Group

New York, NY: The National Resume Writers Association (NRWA) has donated Kevlar shield and First Response Backpacks to United States troops stationed abroad with the help of Soldiers' Angels.

The NRWA's Board of Director's initiative to help protect American soldiers was prompted by both continuing media images of injured soldiers and the recent recovery of ABC News anchor Bob Woodruff after an IED attack.

NRWA has purchased one Kevlar shield, equipment that is designed to protect soldiers from IEDs (improvised explosive devices). IEDs are "homemade" devices that can cause injury or death by using explosives alone or in combination with toxic chemicals, biological toxins or radiological material, according to GlobalSecurity.org.

NRWA has also purchased 40 First Response backpacks intended to comfort injured soldiers with personal care products, clothing, a phone card and a "Blanket of Hope" handmade by Soldiers' Angels volunteers. Each backpack also includes a note of well wishes for the recipient soldier.

Soldiers' Angels "Blanket of Hope" kits include one blanket, a set of markers, a blank white cloth for the 'canvas', decorative items and a note card to be attached to the finished blanket.

NRWA has created a contest for its members to encourage the best designed "Blanket of Hope." In the organization's recent press release president Kathy Sweeney said "I think the blanket designing contest will be a great way to show the creativity of our members. Our members also will feel tremendous joy, knowing that the soldiers will be so appreciative of our efforts."

Some members of NRWA have also adopted an overseas soldier and pledged to provide bi-monthly care packages and correspondence.

The NRWA decided to team with Soldiers' Angels because of the variety of support programs that the non-profit offers to troops. The NRWA Board of Directors has included all of the Soldiers' Angels initiatives into their outreach program.

In a recent press release, NRWA president Kathy Sweeney said "It is so important for our military service members to feel protected and supported during their overseas duty tours. Our organization has a tradition of contributing to worthy causes - the well-being of U.S. troops is certainly worthy of our support. If we can save just one life or provide comfort to the soldiers while they are stationed overseas, then we are happy to step up to the plate."

The NRWA's soldier support program will be overseen by board members Sally McIntosh, Bonnie Kurka and Greg Bridgeman. These professional resume writers have all either served in the military or has a family member who serves.

Patti Patton-Bader of Soldiers' Angels praised the NRWA's efforts. "It is only through our collaborative efforts that we can effectively help our troops. Our troops need us now more than ever," she said. "I thank the membership of NRWA for answering the call and standing up for our heroes."
