It's surprising how many places in Asia offer beautiful beachfronts and tropical areas; people often concentrate on the attractions inland with the culture and landmarks and festivals, but the beaches of many places in Asia, including Thailand, are like nothing else.
The best places for tropical vacations in Thailand include Cha-Am and Hua Hin. While in different provinces these two locations are typically linked by many when recommending travel destinations. Both are very quiet and relaxing with little night life and excitement but plenty of activities and sights to keep one busy.
Included with these sights are several ancient palaces and former royal residences and temples, including Phra Nakom Khiri or Khao Wang. This is a hilltop palace, built by King Rama IV in 1859. It is now considered a national monument. Wat Phra Kaew is a beautiful building in the same style as the building of the Temple of the Emerald Buddha at the Grand Palace in Bangkok. Chatchawan Wiangchai Observatory is also nearby.
Of course if you're looking for something more traditional you will find plenty of golf and water sports to keep you busy in this area of Thailand. The atmosphere is very laidback and relaxing. It is also just three hours from Bangkok by car so if you want to see the capital city you can certainly travel there rather easily.
Phuket Island is another popular destination for those looking for a beautiful tropical getaway in Thailand. Nai Yang National Park is surrounded by exotic casuarina trees and is a beautiful place for picnics, swimming and snorkeling. It is located to the northwest of the island 20 minutes from the airport.
Pattaya Beach is another location that is very popular with tourists and you can learn to dive with their instructors here. The water sports here are said to be the best in the country. Koh Samui and Hau Hin are also favorites for tourists.
When visiting Thailand keep in mind that some area beaches are not meant for swimming because of strong undertows and powerful surfs, so be mindful of warnings in the area. Much of the country however can offer an exotic tropical getaway like you've never imagined! Also be wary of divers with shoddy equipment who offer to teach you - make sure they're actually working out of a legitimate school! There are also areas of Thailand that are not quite safe for tourists so don't travel too far from your resort area.
