Tropical Storm Fay: The Rain in Florida Never Stops

Brian Munger
Altamonte Springs, Florida -- Tropical Storm Fay had a direct impact on my area before it came, as many people scurried around in a frantic panic to gather batteries, flashlights, water and various other items. The madness did not stop there. The madness continued as the storm got closer . . . and as it finally arrived and said "Hi" to all of us. Listed below are various ways in which I was affected by this sweet gal named "Fay."

The storm produced strong enough winds to knock out my power. On Wednesday morning, at approximately 12:15 AM, my whole complex lost power. After lying around the house and walking around aimlessly around the living room in a sleepless mode, I was delighted to see the power finally become restored 4 hours later, at approximately 4:00 AM. Needless to say, the damage was already done, as I was not able to fall asleep until around 4:30 AM . . . then had to wake up just three hours later for work! It would've been a much more pleasant night if I had power (and air conditioning) to sleep in! If you have ever lived in Florida, then you know it's nearly impossible to sleep when you are without air conditioning in August!

My roommate had to stay home from work for two days. He works with pest control, but due to the non-stop rain, he was instructed to stay home, as it would be pointless to spray their chemical on lawns . . . the chemicals would've immediately been washed away by the stubborn rain. This in turn, affected me, because he had more time to hang around at home and mess up the kitchen!

My racquetball league was canceled this week due to the storm and flood-causing rains. This is my main source of exercise, so I was very disappointed to hear this unfortunate news! If I gain weight this week, I'm immediately blaming it on Fay!

The conditions caused by the storm caused me to cancel a date with a beautiful woman! Hey, I'm not getting any younger! I need to find my wife soon, so I don't need any storms or hurricanes delaying the process! Come on, Fay, show a little respect for a single bachelor! Check with me first before you invade us again! If I have another hot date scheduled, then you're just going to have to wait, Fay!

The things listed above are all unfortunate things, but there are others in Florida who experienced extreme flood damage to their homes, so I consider myself very fortunate. Best wishes to all that are still flooded out of their homes. And best wishes to all of those that are in line to meet Fay.
