First Impressions
At first glance of Tropical Treats, you notice outdoor décor as bright and vibrant as summer. Picnic tables in the front of Tropical Treats are painted with shades of pink and yellow. Additional seating is brilliantly painted in various hues of blue. Tropical Treats in located in a small strip mall, but the colors make it stand out from every other business.
When you enter Tropical Treats, you notice various souvenirs scattered along the wall. From t-shirts to jars of shells and everything in between, a tourist will not forget their memory of their stay at the beach. The décor is as colorful as the outside. Bright colors draw your eyes to every square inch of Tropical Treats. Being captivated by the decorations makes you forget why you initially came to Tropical Treats. The menu board is located directly behind the ice cream chest freezers. Clear and concise lettering ensures easy reading. One noteworthy attribute is seating for smaller children. Small chairs and picnic tables just as colorful as the adult sized versions were available.
Wait Staff and Menu
Upon entering Tropical treats, you are greeted by two attendants who pleasantly smiled and welcomed you into their business. There isn't any pressure to order. The employees wait until you are ready to order. When you are ready to order, they offer the most popular flavors. Tropical Treats offers over 20 different flavors of ice cream with an additional 10 flavors of Italian ice.
We have a child with peanut allergies, so we explained to the employees we needed them to use sterile ice cream scoops. Without fail, they grabbed utensils from unused water well and began to scoop ice cream. Something they taught me is when someone has an allergy; they scoop ice cream from the top of the ice cream container. I was extremely impressed.
The menu prices were reasonable considering they are in the midst of tourist season. A single dip cone cost slightly under $2 where a double dipped cone is under $3. So for a family of six, I spent less than $20 for dessert. Compared to traditional restaurants, Tropical treat Oak Island, NC is a great value. I was looking for a coffee drink, so I decided to order a cappuccino. The drink cost $2.50 and was the worst part of the entire experience. I had to wait for the employee qualified to make this drink to return. When they did, it was made from a machine. The coffee was bitter and bland.
