Tropical Virgin Holiday Drink Recipes for Kids

Gerald McLeod
During the holiday season, many of us find ourselves experimenting with alcoholic drink mixtures in an attempt to create an exotic, tasty, ever effective concoction that will thoroughly impress our adult friends and family and make us the talk of the next upcoming family event...but what about the kids? They don't always want to have to settle for can soda. They also would like to be surprised. They too want to sip on some exotic, far away land, delicious concoction, with an umbrella sticking out of it that was created especially for them. So why not create some exciting tropical virgin holiday drinks that they would enjoy. It is not that difficult. It will take some time. But what worthy project doesn't? Why not give it a try? Here are a few that I dreamed up that my children love to help give you some idea;

Frosty Mocha - Cappuccino Punch

2 - 12 ounce Bottles of Starbucks Cappuccino Ice Coffee

1 pint Vanilla Ice Cream

¼ pint of Mocha Ice Cream

Crushed ice

Mix the Ice Cream, ½ pint Vanilla, and 1/8 pint Mocha in a half filled with crushed ice. Pour the Starbucks Cappuccino over the Ice Cream and serve with a straw and spoon. Makes 2 servings.

Guava Ade Fruit Blizzard

1 Quart Orange Juice

1 Quart Grapefruit Juice

1 Quart Pineapple Juice

1 Cup Lemon Juice

1 Cup Lime Juice

Sugar to Taste

1 Gallon of Guava Nectar (store at room temperature)

Blend all of the fruit juices together and add sugar to taste. Freeze the mixture in ice cube trays, decorative small gelatin molds, or fruit rings. Place small pieces of strawberries, kiwi bits or small pineapple slices in the mixture before it freezes and place a sprig of mint that extends out of the frozen mixture. Pour the room temperature Guava over the frozen fruit and serve in a large martini glass, garnished with an orange slice and a tropical umbrella. Makes 8 - 10 servings.

Mango - Orange Tropical Frost

1 Pint Water (room temperature)

12 Ounce Can Frozen Orange Juice, Slightly Thawed

2 Mangos

1 Quart Orange Sherbet Ice Cream

Crushed Ice

Combine the slightly thawed frozen orange juice, crushed ice, and mangos (peeled and seed removed) in the blender and until froshty (not liquid, just an icy mix). Add a layer of frosh mixture into decorative glasses. Scoop the orange sherbet ice cream into glass over the mixture. Pour the additional frosh mixture on top of the ice cream. Add a couple ounces of water to begin the melting action. Top the mixture with a Maraschino cherry and sprig of mint. Serve with a spoon and straw. Makes 4 servings.

A few of the recipes involve seasonal fruit, but you can improvise. Use your imagination. Your kids can help, and you will have a wonderful time trying different blends as you search for taste combinations that work. Make your kids feel special too. Create your own tropical virgin holiday drinks just for them this season.
