Troubled Environment

There was a time long ago
When streams gushed with a crisp flow
When the air was pure and full of life
When ducks would quack happily
And you could grab a rabbit or a blueberry
and eat is right away, without worrying about
arsenic and lead and mercury and nasty plastic
and hydrofluorocarbons and strange poisonous
pesticides that were invented in microwave ovens
full of three-week old cheese and bits of aluminum foil
Let us bring back those peaceful and healthy days
Just a little bit at a time, so that generations from now
they will thank us and speak of us with honor
