The Blackberry 7280 is a legacy smart phone released by Blackberry in quarter one 2004. The Blackberry 7280 uses GSM and GPRS technology to incorporate multiple features such as web access, email capability, an organizer system, SMS and other applications as well as cradle-free, wireless, data sync with your home PC. Two of the most common problems with the Blackberry 7280 are power on problems and also an unexpected power off problem during use.
If the Blackberry 7280 Shuts Off Without Warning
Your Blackberry 7280 device may run for roughly 40 minutes before powering down by itself. This means you may need to take a backup of your data and then reload the Blackberry 7280 operating system.
Sign up to the Blackberry forums and download the free operating system-called Jl_Cmder-to your PC. Back up all of your data and contacts from your Blackberry onto your PC by using the Blackberry Desktop Software included with your device.Navigate to c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader and delete the vendor.xml file. Shut down the Blackberry Desktop Manager, remove the battery from your Blackberry 7280 and plug the Blackberry 7280 into your PC.
Double-click on Jl_Cmder from its location on you PC and follow the prompts until loading is complete. Be warned this will wipe out all data on your Blackberry 7280. This may take several attempts, so continue trying until your device reboots with a 507 error.
Reload your Blackberry's application software by opening your Desktop Manager again and choosing the "application loader"-note that once the loading is complete, your Blackberry will reboot on its own. Re-insert the battery into the Blackberry 7280 and sync your data from your PC to your Blackberry with your Blackberry Desktop Software.
If the Blackberry 7280 Will Not Power On
A common Blackberry 7280 problem occurs when attempting to plug in the Blackberry 7280 for charging and the charging light (the red light located in the upper right corner of the device) lights up for a few seconds and then quits. This is more than likely because the Blackberry 7280 battery is dead. The Blackberry 7280 batter has a life of about one to three years.
You can buy a new Blackberry 7280 battery from a website such as BatteryEngine or a similar phone accessory store. Press the battery release button on the back of the device and slide the cover in the direction of the arrow until the cover pops free. Remove the old battery. While inserting the new battery, be aware of the copper connections on both the battery and the Blackberry 7280. These must be aligned. Replace the cover and power on your Blackberry device.
