Troy University Expands Online Program Through E-partnership with Community Colleges

TROY, AL: On May 13, 2009, Troy University announced a new distance-learning partnership with Alabama community colleges, enabling two-year college graduates to continue their education and graduate from Troy University with a four-year degree. Announced by Governor Bob Riley, Troy Chancellor Dr. Jack Hawkins, Jr., and Postsecondary Education Chancellor Bradley Byrne, "eConnections" seeks to remove barriers to completion of bachelors' degrees. Fifteen community colleges are participating in the program.

Distance learning allows students who may not be able to attend traditional classrooms to have access to a quality education. Troy University has a large eCampus offering bachelors degrees in a number of specializations. Troy has long served the military community through campus classrooms and eArmyU. The extension of Troy University's distance-learning programs to include the eConnections partnership with community colleges is an excellent opportunity for students to take advantage of online educational opportunities.

If successful, eConnections could provide a model for other state universities to collaborate with community colleges to provide distance-learning degree programs to students bound by place, work, or family constraints. Troy University's eConnections is taking a step in the right direction to make online education accessible to all students, including those currently working on associates' degrees.
