Truck Reviews: 2009 GMC Sierra 1500

Thom W. Conroy
GMC knows as much about making a durable work truck as anyone, and the 2009 GMC Sierra 1500 is the proof. Not content to follow the industry lead of pickup trucks that have the interiors of sedans, GMC has stayed true to the concept of manufacturing a rough and tough truck that was made for muddy work boots with the 2009 GMC Sierra 1500. To put it concisely, the 2009 GMC Sierra 1500 may not have everything a consumer wants, but it certainly has everything a professional trades person needs. With a starting price of $20,350, the 2009 GMC Sierra 1500 gets good mileage for a work truck - 15 miles per gallon in the city and 20 miles per gallon on the highway, and is powerful enough to get the job done.

On the exterior, the 2009 GMC Sierra looks to be what it is - a good utilitarian work truck that can take a beating, get hosed off, and still look good. It has a fully boxed frame from front to the fuel tank that will stand up well in daily work abuse. The solar ray light tinted glass windows and aluminized stainless steel muffler and tailpipe give a good appearance, but even these have a practical purpose other than looks.

Make no mistake, the 2009 GMC Sierra 1500 maintains it's reputation by the superior performance package that is better than most others in this class. Powered by a 4.3 Liter, V-6 engine that has a 195 Horsepower output and a 4 speed electronically controlled transmission with overdrive, the 2009 GMC Sierra can handle it's business. With front independent coil over shock suspension, a front stabilizer bar, and rear 2 stage multi leaf spring suspension the GMC Sierra rides very well for a work truck. The performance package of the 2009 GMC Sierra 1500 is completed with 4 wheel anti-lock front disc/rear drum brakes and power rack-and-pinion steering.

The interior of the 2009 GMC Sierra 1500 stays true to it's blue collar roots, an owner does not need to work about getting it dirty. A rubberized vinyl floor covering, vinyl seat trim and a driver information center keep attention where it should be - on working. With air conditioning and an AM/FM stereo with a CD player and MP3 capabilities and 4 speakers, the GMC Sierra 1500 has all that is needed in a work truck.

From the perspective of safety the 2009 GMC Sierra 1500 has all of the quality features of any safe vehicle. Driver and front passenger airbags, daytime running lights, a tire pressure monitor system and an ONSTAR safe and sound plan are more than adequate to protect occupants in most situations.

Any individual searching for a durable and quality work truck cannot possibly do any better than buying a 2009 GMC Sierra 1500.
