True Blood Rolling Stone Cover Disgusting

Rolling Stone and True Blood Spur Controversy

Wendy Dawn
Rolling Stone and True Blood have crossed the line and stirred a controversy that is certain to get the publicity intended from the sadistic cover of the September 2, 2010 issue. The stars of True Blood are naked, posed in sexy positions, and covered in blood.

Sookie (Anna Paquin), Bill (Stephen Moyer), and Eric (Alexander Skaarsgard) unabashedly bare it all and have allowed themselves to be photographed covered in fake blood, according to US Magazine.

Rolling Stone is publicly displayed in supermarkets and bookstores and this cover has clearly crossed a line combining sex and gore portraying it as sexy, which is also one of the unstated goals of True Blood, the sexy and wildly popular vampire series on HBO.

According to web forums and user comments public passions about the True Blood Rolling Stones magazine cover are sharply divided. There are those who are overwhelmingly in favor of vampire blood and sex, then there are those who are adamantly opposed to it feeling it is an evil and atrocious public display.

This is something that should be displayed in the pornographic magazine section of local stores. It is completely inappropriate for those who do not wish to be exposed to the sadistic intersection of blood and sex. It is also offensive to have this magazine exposed in a public place where kids may be able to catch a glimpse of the magazine.

Fox411 has an unscientific poll in place which indicates that those who think the Rolling Stones September 2, 2010 cover is "weird and gross" run slightly ahead of those who have voted that it is "sexy and awesome," followed by those who determine the True Blood cover to be "sad and pathetic."

The poll is unscientific, but paints a vivid picture of what people view as entertainment versus what they find offensive to their personal values, family values, and the value of our culture as a whole. If this type of magazine cover has become acceptable then we seem to be making a decided move toward merging sex, which should be beautiful and shared in love, with evil blood letting by vampires sucking blood from the neck.

The Rolling Stones True Blood cover is simply sickening and disgusting.

Even more troubling are a comment by Stephen Moyer, Bill, about the disturbing photo and HBO series...

"If we go from a base level, vampires create a hole in the neck where there wasn't one before. It's a de-virginization - breaking the hymen, creating blood and then drinking the virginal blood. And there's something sharp, the fang, which is probing and penetrating and moving into it. So that's pretty sexy. I think that makes vampires attractive."

True Blood creator Alan Ball obviously has little concern for teens in particular, so we can make an assumption about how he feels about children seeing the magazine. Of the show he told Rolling Stone, "To me vampires are sex. I don't get a vampire story about abstinence. I'm 53. I don't care about high school students. I find them irritating and uninformed."

Nice.

I can't help but wonder what, exactly, it is that he things teens should be informed about, because the Rolling Stone cover says a lot.

Of all things, the Rolling Stones True Blood Cover is at least a good depiction of the theme of the show: sex and blood. If nothing else, perhaps it will open parent's eyes to that fact.

The show is one string of intercourse after another. Rolling Stone reports that "On his show, every available orifice is used for intercourse: gay, straight, between humans and supernatural beings, and supernatural being on supernatural being, whether he be werewolf, dog or an enormous Minotaur-looking being called a maenad. None of the sex is quite as good as vampire sex."

Not only is that a good explanation of the show, but it is a good explanation of the disturbing True Blood cover of Rolling Stone.

If that doesn't reach the base of humanity's soul I don't know what does. This is an offensive cover featuring the nude stars of True Blood and Rolling Stone, which always has it's finger on the pulse of popular culture took it too far this time.

If this is the direction Rolling Stone magazine wants to take then perhaps they should enter the pornographic magazine industry. I'm sure there are plenty of blood, gore, and sex fans to provide an audience. Then, those of us who want to pursue the latest news magazines will not have to be subjected to the likes of this nasty, tasteless magazine cover.

LOL. I see we have sharp divisions on this issue. I will correct the showtime / HBO difference of True Blood - sorry about that oversight - doesn't change my opinion of the True Blood Cover of Rolling Stone.

I'm with Saul on this but beyond that... who said Rolling Stone was a news magazine? It is about current music, tv, movies and hot topics but rarely ever about news.

    So true!

I thought the cover was done well: provocative, a selling tool, not overstated and well within the context of the show. It is also edgy and risque, something 'Rolling Stone' has become known for...

The further from truth people recede, the less taste they seem to have. Why. Because they lose all sense of shame.

Wow. Completely uninformed about the show. It's not geared for teens, never has been. I'm with Alan Ball. I raised my kids, I'm done with worrying about what kids are seeing. If you're the parent of a child under the age of 18, then turn the channel off, put a block on certain channels, sit down with your kids while they watch TV, etc. In other words, do your damn job and quit spewing out your opinions on what should be on TV and what shouldn't. It's not the entertainment industry's burden to bear any of the parenting of your children. That's all on YOU.
