The Season 2 finale of True Blood airs on HBO on Sunday, September 13, 2009 at 9 PM (Eastern). This is the 12th episode and is titled "Before the Night Is Over."

Season 2 began with Lafayette chained up in Eric's basement for selling vampire blood, Bill and Sookie trying to make their relationship work even with Jessica, the 17-year-old vampire sired my Bill, Tara continuing the bizarre relationship with Maryann, who has a past with the shape shifter, Sam, and Jason joining the vampire-hating church, Fellowship of the Sun.

As the end of Season 2 nears its end, some storylines have ended and some are just beginning. Lafayette has been freed by Eric, who, for some reason, wants him to continue selling vampire blood. Jessica has begun a relationship with Hoyt to the shock of his mother, Maxine. Eric asked for Bill and Sookie to help them find his maker, the missing 2000 year old vampire Sheriff of Area 9, Godric, in Dallas at the Fellowship of the Sun headquarters only to find that Godric was a willing captive of the church and wanted to die. The Fellowship of the Sun learns that Jason's sister is with Bill and consider Jason to be a traitor and try to kill him and Eric, only to be saved by Godric. Later, Luke, one of the members of the Fellowship of the Sun enters Godric's to blow himself up along with all of the vampires in the room. After the blast, Eric coerces Sookie into removing shrapnel from his chest, which causes her to drink some of his blood and become psychically connected. After facing a higher up vampire for bad decisions, Godric allows himself to be burned by sunlight.

When Bill and Sookie return to Bon Temps, they find the town in utter chaos due to Maryann. While they were gone, Maryann turned everyone in town into her minions to find and capture Sam for one of her sacrifices. Earlier in the season, Maryann and caused havoc with her wild parties, moving in with Tara in an attempt to further annoy Sam and ultimately hunting Sam for one of her sacrifices. It also turns out that Maryann is the creatures that scratched Sookie's back and made her mortally sick. Maryann attacks Sookie, Bill bites her but can't fight her off and Sookie makes the save with her newfound power. After fleeing Bill gets sick from Maryann's blood, he finally tells us what exactly he thinks Maryann might be: a maenad.

In Greek mythology, maenads are female followers of Dionysus (Bacchus to the Romans), the god of wine, the inspirer of ritual madness and ecstasy. Maenads are known as the "raving ones" and often shown in a state of ecstatic frenzy, losing all self control -- dancing, drinking, shouting, engaging in uncontrollable sexual behavior, hunting animals, men and children and eating their raw flesh.

In the next two episodes, Maryann prepares for a sacrifice while becoming curious about Sookie's powers. Bill goes to Sophie-Anne, the Vampire Queen of Louisiana, for information on how to stop Maryann. Sophie-Anne warns Eric to keep the lid on Bill's inquisitiveness. Hoyt struggles with his mother, Maxine, as she and his vampire girlfriend, Jessica, enter into a bitter feud. Jason and Andy create a hero duo. Sam places his trust in Eric.

Sookie and Lafayette trying to protect Tara from herself and, while Bill is gone, Maryann forces Sookie to be the Maid of Honor at the sacrifice. This leads us to the title of the episode with Sookie and Bill dancing to the Jerry Lee Lewis song "Before the Night Is Over."

It is rumored that taking Maryann out will be a group effort by all of the good characters. To find out, be sure to tune into the final episode of the second season of True Blood in September!

True Blood already has the green light from HBO for a third season, where we will learn more about Sookie's newfound talents, which are rumored to be like the book, in which Sookie is half fairy.
