True Confession, I Worked on a National Psychic Line. Part 1

I am sure you have called or at least thought about calling one of those psychic hotlines you see on television or in the newspapers. Take it from someone who worked on one of those lines many people call them, and I bet there are untold numbers of people who do not admit to calling.

I knew I had the skills and I was looking for some extra money so I sought out one of the biggest companies and sent in my application. I was called for an interview and was told that in addition to the resume I needed to do a cold reading for my boss. A cold psychic reading is done when applying for a psychic job; it simply means you are doing a reading when you know nothing about the other person except for perhaps their sex.

I was not new to readings so that was the easy part; the hard part was doing it over the phone. However, I got over that quickly enough when I was hired. First things first, I was sent the web address of information to read and print off. This became my quide for work.

Yes, I admit it was a script; however, it is not as some people say they are. Our script said we were to answer the telephone with "hello, thanks for calling the network, this is Paisley" or what ever your name might have been. It said we should ask for a phone number or an email address so we could call back if needed or send an invite to contests and so forth.

These were pages of quick to do tarot card spreads, which were suitable for cold readings and a quick summary of astrological number formulations. There were rules we needed to follow while working on the line and we needed to know these inside and out. These needed to print off.

A typical call consisted of a cold reading. This is when someone just called the line and wanted to speak to a reader. I knew nothing about the people and I asked them to hold questions until I got a brief sense of them as I read a few cards of a larger spread. If I seen an affair in the cards or a pregnancy I called them on it and they acknowledged it to be true. I was not nor have I ever been 100 percent nor have I ever claimed to be either.

I worked on a psychic line for a period of 9 months and quit for various reasons. I took the job because I was a full time student with 2 semesters to go, recently single and needed some type of income. With little time for a job locally, I need to do something quick that paid well and that I could do from home and this is one job I had skills for

This paid twelve dollars an hour and seemed like easy work for me. It was not as easy as I thought it would be. I only made 12 dollars an hour when I talked 60 minutes. The longer you kept people on the phone the more calls came in and I working the early hours of the morning so there were many psychics and not enough callers. .

I gave it an honest shot but quit the job after much thought. Would I do this job again? No, I would not although I know; I can help others they should not have to pay 4.99 a minute to talk to me!

I was and still am a 'real' psychic, even thought I do not flaunt my gifts in the public eye. I have lost too many friends and even a job because it scares people. That is sad but it is another article in its self.
