True Faith Jewelry as Seen on Real Housewives

Soap Baubles Pale when Compared to Custom Designed Wear by the Grand Dame of Talk Radio

Sylvia Cochran
The Real Housewives of New York City feature Alex McCord, Bethenny Frankel, Jill Zarin, LuAnn de Lesseps, Ramona Singer and the latter's True Faith Jewelry line of fashion crosses and other gems. You might have a hard time combining the image of True Faith Jewelry with episode one of the Real Housewives, but who are we to judge?

Of course, this is not the first time that jewelry gets a boost by being seen on TV. Consider the Soap Opera Jewelry site that specializes in baubles as seen on the soaps. There are the Yong and the Restless Phyllis Newman wedding ring, the General Hospital Kate Howard jewelry selection, and of course the Days of our Lives Sami wedding ring.

In some cases it is the other way round, and instead of art imitating fiction or reality TV, A-listers stumble over jewelry they like and make it famous. Take for example The Orchid Boutique that boasts a client list including Paris Hilton, Miley Cyrus (aka Hannah Montana), and Sienna Miller.

Then there are the jewelry pieces that do not get nearly enough exposure, in part because they are handmade by contentious celebrities who are done being nice, and not afraid to call a spade a spade; case in point is Dr. Laura Schlessinger. Her Operation Family Fund custom necklaces and bracelets are designed and handcrafted by the grand dame of tell-it-like-it-is radio herself, Laura Schlessinger.

Unlike the other baubles you can buy that benefit none other than the designers or vendors, Dr. Laura's jewelry is a purchase with a purpose that "provides funds for immediate or long-term needs to the families of those who have been killed or severely disabled during Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom."

Sure, you could be buying your baubles to look like a celeb - but why would you? Especially seeing that you could make a real difference in someone's life by wearing a unique bit of jewelry instead?

It's an odd way to advertise. Like the jokes they make in The Truman Show with Jim Carrey. Let's hope it doesn't come to that.

I agree with you. Why all the fuss about imitating celebrity jewelry? One of my favorite necklaces was made out of cheerios and Fruit Loops by one son - and I wore it proudly that day, even though it got a little sticky when I sweated on a hot summer day. He was so proud of his creation - how could I refuse to wear it - and it still means more to me than any designer jewelry :)

Interesting info. I'm not a fan of Dr. Laura, but I like the jewelry line. I appreciate seeing a celebrity using their other talents (other than just "being") and using them for good.
