True Friend's Bond - A Poem

Michelle Chabala
Though I'm proud of who I am,
I feel insecure at times
as I know lots of people do.
Life is full of hardships
and difficult decisions.
It is sometimes hard to know
which way is the right way to go.
Some people see things as only black or white,
but there are some things in life
that are not always that clear.
There is often more than one way
to do different things
with none of them being wrong.
Even though this may be,
it is wise to be flexible
in learning other styles.
In lots of things that I do,
I can achieve my goal
in many different ways.
One thing I have noticed
is there are people in the world
who do not seem to like
the adaptability I have.
I've been shunned and excluded
at quite a few festivities.
Though it can be disheartening sometimes,
I try not to let it get me down
but I don't always succeed.
Whenever I feel down and out,
I try to think of different things
to help me get through the rocky roads.
It is when tough times come around
that you discover who is truly your friend
and whose friendship is just pretend.
I learned a long time ago
to always be on your guard
and careful who let into your heart
whether it be a friend or something more.
As I have discovered through
the ups and downs life gives you,
any friend who is worth having
will always be understanding
and will prove they're worth the wait.
In times where you feel insecure,
these are the people who
will whatever they can
to help you get through the uncertainty.
There are a few people in my life
who are exactly what I described.
They are all very dear to me
and each and every one of them
is worth much more than their weight in gold
because you just can't put a price on
something that is so strong
as a true friend's bond.
