True Independance

A Fourth of July Poem

aishaladon
Red, white and blue
Stars and stripes too

Rockets red glare
Bombs bursting in air

Freedom, independence
Home of the brave
Many where free
While others still slaves

Land of the free
Now home to me
The fourth of July
To my people a lie

Fireworks represent
The wars that were fought
But not for freedom for all
Still we stand tall

Our independence came much later
Our struggles to get through were much greater

We've come a long way
With still more to grow
So I celebrate the juneteenth festival
