True Lamb

Poem on the Meaning of the Christian Passover

Akili Amina
Blemished not the virgin lamb, he was innocent

Appointed to replace the unleavened, within the basin

Reconstitute, the blood's drip above the door

Bunches of Hyssop dipped, will deliver judgment

Captives are saved when at dawn, they kiss their first born

Gone are the times of rams in the bush, priest heed not your sacrifice

His Infinite wishes to cleanse his image, those to which he gave his blessing

Within this earthly realm resides his breath of life, his creation

This Lamb, this true lamb, awaited the moment of our atonement

This vastness of love, their love for mankind, no heft in measurement

To the table the son invites, partook in bread and wine at his Supper

Flesh they eat and blood they drink, this lamb offered up as the last sacrifice

To purify those with sin who puff up, to take away their malicious hearts

And shine them like gold, redeem those who craft the devil's work

Usher them into the New Covenant, fare paid when his blood spilled

They slit his flesh under hammered nails, with sword letting, it sprayed upon the solider

Sacrificial ceremony was deemed to set all free, bring them into the flock

This lamb is now our Savior, gave us biblical visuals on the way we should go

This lamb is now our Shepherd, but some of us just call him, The Door

The True Lamb or The one who brought us the Passover
