True Lies: Movie Review

True Lies is a Blockbuster Action Comedy Movie

Mary Zeiher
"True Lies" is a blockbuster, fun action movie with just enough humor to keep you laughing and enough action to keep you on the edge of your seat. True Lies came out in 1994 and it stars Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jamie Lee Curtis, Tom Arnold and Bill Paxton.

Harry (Schwarzenegger) is leading a double life in "True Lies" as a top agent for the Omega Sector, a covert organization, and posing at night as a boring computer salesman for his wife (Curtis) and family. Harry's partner Gib (Arnold), also an agent, poses along in the double life and has some of the movies best lines and comedic moments.

We start "True Lies" with Harry is on one of his missions in Switzerland, in a tux, and of course he meets a beautiful foreign woman who is an antique dealer and is helping to smuggle nuclear warheads into the United States for a terrorist group. In his own suave way Harry charms this antiques dealer and ends up with her business card. Once back in the States Harry pays a visit to beautiful dealer and turns out that she is helping a group names Crimson Jihad, led by a crazy terrorist named Aziz.

Harry tries to capture Aziz and the chase turns into Harry on a horse and Aziz on a motorcycle through a shopping mall and the Westin Bonaventure Hotel. Don't miss the end of the chase with the motorcycle jump off the roof and the talk that Harry has with the horse. Great Stuff here in "True Lies"!

Because of the chase Harry ends up late for his birthday party, angering Helen. Harry goes to her office the next day to make it up to her and overhears her talking about having an affair with someone named Simon (Paxton) and that he might be a spy. This sets off Harry to find out who this Simon is and he comes to find out he is just a used car salesman posing as a spy.

Meantime Simon, the fake "True Lies" spy, has Helen in his trailer with plastic wine glasses and fake airline tickets asking her to go to Paris with him. Harry wants to know why Helen is seeing Simon and sets up an assault, including helicopters, to take both of them secretly in custody. Harry finds out from Helen that she is seeking a little excitement but still loves her husband. Do not miss the scene on the edge of the damn where Harry takes Simon to teach him a lesson about being a spy!

Next in "True Lies", Harry wants to give Helen a little excitement son he arranges for her to go on a 'mission' and plant a bug in the room of a potential target. Helen agrees and off she goes. Only Harry is there sitting in the shadows and watches her dance. Then just as Harry is to reveal himself the terrorist's storm in and take both of them as hostages to their island on a private jet.

It is here that Helen finds out that Harry is really not a boring computer salesman but a top international "True Lies" spy. She is not pleased. But then Harry helps them both escape and gets caught in an explosion and Helen thinks he is dead and she gets re-captured. She is in a limo, imagine that, leaving the island with the bad guys. Meantime Gib comes to the still alive Harry's rescue in a helicopter. Gib and Harry go to rescue Helen by pulling her from the sun roof of the limo, another great scene in "True Lies" not to be missed.

Once back on land they watch the warhead explode back on the island and then find out that Aziz and his bad guys are holed up in a skyscraper and they have Harry's daughter Dana as a hostage. So of course Harry takes off to rescue her. But I don't want to ruin the end of the movie for those of you that haven't seen "True Lies" before.

"True Lies" is a very good action/comedy movie, I have seen it many times and I have it on DVD. I have a great time watching this movie and I love Jamie Lee Curtis and the role that she plays.
