Is the Tru-Fit the best ankle brace available? I haven't tried them all, but I can offer my thoughts on this particular brand of ankle support.
Search for the best ankle brace
If you've ever twisted an ankle during a game, you may have considered wearing an ankle brace. I recently experienced a slight ankle fracture while playing volleyball. It took a couple weeks to start walking again, and when it came time to return to the court I wanted to protect my injury by finding the best ankle brace available.
I headed to the nearest Dick's Sporting Goods and found the section with joint supports. Tru-Fit was one of the most prominent brands, along with Pro-Tec and McDavid. I tried on a few different braces and found some of them cumbersome and uncomfortable, before settling on the Tru-Fit.
Tru-Fit: Types of braces
Tru-Fit makes a number of athletic braces for the ankle, knee, wrist and elbow. The company offers a couple of different ankle braces, from basic ankle support to breathable support with wraps to antimicrobial lace supports. I went with the "Premium lace-up ankle brace with gel cushions," a product designed to guard against ligament sprain and instability, according to the company's website.
The Tru-Fit brace with gel cushions was a little bulky and made for a tight fit inside my shoe. But it was still better than the braces that used hard plastic. Those were nearly impossible to squeeze inside my shoe and they weren't comfortable at all. The Tru-Fit ankle brace with gel felt comfortable to walk and jump on, so it was the one I chose to purchase.
Tru-Fit ankle brace price
Price is one of many factors to consider when trying to find the best ankle brace. You don't want to pay more than necessary, but you don't want to buy the cheapest product and sacrifice safety to save a few bucks.
Tru-Fit was one of the more affordable braces I saw at Dick's. It wasn't the cheapest, which was reassuring, but it was far from the most expensive.
Tru-Fit - Best ankle brace?: Summary
I can't say definitively that the lace-up Tru-Fit brace with gel cushions is the best ankle brace on the market. But I can say that it worked out great for me. It was comfortable, sturdy, and helped me get back on the court without having to worry about the injury.
