Imagine being right in the thick of things, within one mile of Interstate 5 and .7 of a mile to Interstate 91 in Orange County California, but feeling as if you live in the suburbs.

This is the jewel called Sage Park Apartments, a gated community for those 62 years of age and older.

It is less than half a block to the nearest post office and two blocks to the Walmart in the Anaheim Plaza Shopping Center, where there is also a Bank of America and a Marie Callendar's restaurant, a GNC, Radio Shack and many more stores. Just across one street is another shopping center, across another street is a Smart and Final. Then, of course, there is Sage Park. The list goes on and on. You can literally WALK to what you need.

Facts don't suffice to give you the picture of what makes Sage Park Apartments so special, but here are the facts:

These are Garden apartments, one downstairs and one upstairs. (No hallways)

Units are 2 bedroom, 2 bath (980 sq ft) and 1 bedroom, 1 bath (660 sq ft).

Vaulted ceilings in the 2x2 apartments with built-in window seats. Very open and airy.

Built before the shabby new style of construction became common, this is not a community of unimaginative little boxes. Architectural interest is visible everywhere.

Trees, too, are everywhere: 3 story high pines and palm trees. Smaller trees of many different varieties, hedges, flowering bushes and lots of lawn with meandering sidewalks.

Pets are allowed, both small dogs and cats, but the air is fresh and pet owners are responsible.

There are only 100 units.

Peaceful and quiet, but at 9:30 pm you can sometimes faintly hear the fireworks signaling that Disneyland is closing.

At 5:00 pm the electronic gate slides shut and opens again at 6:00 am. There is a keycard for automobile entry and a phone at the front gate for buzzing in guests. Mailboxes are secure and oversized packages are delivered straight to your door.

The driveway curves to the back of the property where it ends (Cul de Sac).

All of the units are on the same side of the driveway (street), the other side (also landscaped) is for parking and there is a 6-foot wall which backs up to single family dwellings.

The other side of the property is bounded by a storm management route, well fenced and gated. This serves as more protection.

Once a week a professional landscape team takes care of the lawns and other landscaping needs.

There is a beautiful fenced outdoor pool and spa area.

The two laundry rooms are small houses, both freestanding and open 24 hours a day, and the cost is subsidized. They are always clean, with five each washers and dryers per laundry room. Like all common areas, these remain locked. All residents have keys, but nobody can walk in off the street and use them.

Management is on site and excellent (Western National Group). They are all helpful and caring, but strict enough about the rules to make life more pleasant for everyone. Nothing ever stays broken and all issues are addressed immediately:
