Trump an Alternative to Obama? I Don't Think So

No More Relations with China?

Gary Davis
COMMENTARY | Sometimes what starts out as a lark becomes reality. Unfortunately, it can occur in places that are scary, like politics. Donald Trump is becoming more and more serious about a presidential run. He is actually leading in some polls. Would Trump make a good president? Is he bluffing?

One article from Newsmax.com yells "Trump: I'm Running as a Republican, Period." How do we interpret that?

Has Trump unequivocally said he will run for the presidency? No, Trump remains on the sidelines posturing. However that "lark" I spoke about is taking on a life of its own. What's happening?

What's happening is a backlash. President Obama was a backlash to an incompetent George Bush. Unfortunately, Obama is failing miserably. Trump says in the video provided by Newsmax that we must get Obama out and says, "He's the worst president we've ever had." I haven't lived under every president, so I cannot agree with him carte blanche.

Still, the question we need to ask ourselves is, "Would Donald Trump be a good president?"

Is there anything we can look at that would give us a hint? How about looking at "The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer" of CNN News; is that a good source? I think so. Consider "Donald Trump on China, "These are not our friends. These are our enemies." Blitzer spends some time interviewing Trump.

I'm not going to go into depth. Trump basically wants to insure we become alienated from China. A 25 percent tax on imports from China would be imposed to offset the money they are making off of their investments in our country and, that is just one of the "remedies" Trump says we must have.

Probably the main fact I should report is Trump says he would run he would run as a Republican rather than as an Independent so as not to split the vote and let President Obama back into office.

Another assertion from Trump is that he will spend "millions and millions" of his own money in a campaign.

I humbly end this article with two thoughts. First, while President Obama does need to go, Donald Trump is no alternative. Finally, I don't know how it makes you feel, but it kind of bothers me that someone can run for the presidency simply because he is rich. Every time that happens, I wonder how many "work-a-day Joes" (or as I have just been reminded by my wife, Josephines) there are who could run this country so much better.
