Truth and Beauty

A Poem

Etienne J. Sarfelli
Take a step back
From the mirror
You're peering in
You're prettier than the face that's staring back
You always knew how to hate yourself, never believing there was anything to love.
You've missed so many things life has to offer.
Hiding your light behind a veil
No one ever knew
No one could ever see the truth
No one could ever find a way to look inside

Take a step back from the window you're standing near
Stop pressing your face against the glass
Your desires are waiting on the other side
But there's a better way to reach them than that
You always had a way
Of doubting that you deserved the best
These doubts were yours and yours alone
No one ever knew
No one could ever see
No one could ever find a way to look inside
To discover the passion you kept hidden
Step out of the darkness
Let your cover fall
Let the world know that you're there
Allow yourself
The freedom to be who you are
Allow your dreams to come true
