Truth in Cliches

A Powers
Softly once again I see, but the feeling's getting cold.
Poisoned twice, so shame on me. Being young is getting old.
I'm eating cake, eating my words, window shopping for time,
Giving up my place assured, getting used to salt and lime.
Dressed in drag, dressed in rags, still a child at twenty two.
Do my days have price tags? The proud have become the few.
Pack my bag and run away. I don't like what I've become.
Insert your favorite cliché. There's truth in every one.
