If you haven't heard, Ret. Lt. Gen. Ricardo Sanchez characterized the Iraq war by making some of the following statements:
"There is no question America is living a nightmare with no end in sight"
"Continued manipulations and adjustments to our military strategy will not achieve victory"
"The best we can do with this flawed approach is stave off defeat"
"National efforts to date have been corrupted by partisan politics that have prevented us from devising an effective, executable and supportable strategies"
"At times, these partisan struggles have led us to political decisions that endangered the lives of our sons and daughters on the battlefield. The unmistakable message was that political power had greater priority than our national security objectives."
"Overcoming this strategic failure is the first step toward achieving victory in Iraq"
"Without bipartisan cooperation, we are doomed to fail. There is nothing going on today in Washington that would give us hope."
"Too often, our politicians have been distracted and they have chosen loyalty to their political parties above loyalty to the Constitution because of their lust for power"
"Congress has failed its job of oversight"
"Who will demand accountability for the failure of our national political leadership involved in the management of this war"
"They have unquestionably been derelict in in the performance of their duty. In my profession, these types of leaders would be immediately relieved or court-martialed."
"While the politicians espouse a rhetoric designed to preserve their reputations and their political power, our soldiers die"
"Our military alone could not achieve victory"
"Our National leadership ignored the lessons of World War Two as we entered into this war and to this day continue to believe that victory can be achieved through the application of military power alone"
"From a catastrophically flawed, unrealistically optimistic war plan, to the administration's latest surge strategy, this administration has failed to employ and synchronize its political, economical and military power"
He also said the surge was, "a desperate attempt by the administration that has not accepted the political and economic realities of this war and they have definitely not been able to communicate effectively that reality to the American people."
Now, just to be clear, this was not Barack Obama, John Edwards, or some other liberal, this was one of the most informed people of our time, speaking on the Iraq War. With a shining endorsement like that, what more could the Republican party ask for. All these years of listening to the Neocons barking bitterly in defense of their President and "HIS" war effort, shot down in flames with one "TRUTHFUL" statement.
It's about time someone, who was there and who knows a great deal about what's going on in Iraq, stood up and silenced the Right Wing Neocons. The Neocons who like to bark their fabrications at the rest of us can now bark them at someone who knows the truth of the situation.
We, Who Can See The Truth With Our Own Eye's, are so glad we have people with integrity in our armed services. Not everyone in this country is blinded by fascism and jingoism. God Bless America.

Post a CommentDeez, I can tell you how things could have gone better in iraq. How about keeping politicians out of military leadership descisions. Let the generals do what they are supposed to do. Do you ever see an active duty general try and write bills in the Senate? Do you ever see them involved in appointing judges, or legislating laws? No. So why are our stupid elected officials trying to be armchair QBs?
Sanchez's comments have been interesting. There is no doubt that. It is too bad military personnel get muzzled when they see a problem no matter which party is in the White House.
Interesting. Finally, real observations from someone both informed and without an agenda.
Good piece, Deez, and I agree with your assessment. And Jim..to compare the two years of the Iraq debacle with '43 to '45 isn't even close to a fair comparison. By 1943 The Nazi's were already, for all intent, on the road to defeat, as they were thwarted against England and turned back by the Russians (WWII actually did have a "coalition.") Of course, they were still very strong, and very capable. But a light could be seen at the end of the tunnel.
I don't pretend to know what the answer to Iraq is, but I think it begins with honest assessments at the very least.
I hope thing work out in Iraq I truly do but I still think we shouldn't have gone in and I still think things could have gone better and one more thing...It ain't over yet. Here is hoping for the best but I have a feeling we are going to be there for a long long time.
Sanchez has been gone from the job for a couple of years now, and a lot has changed in those 2 years or so. In May of '43 we were more than a full year away from Overlord, yet by May '45, Nazi Germany was a thing of the past, so Sanchez may feel that the way he portrays Iraq WHEN HE WAS IN CHARGE is accurate, but that ain't the case now. I get the feeling those who are gleeful about Sanchez's position are totally unwilling to accept that things have changed for the better in the past two years. ALL statistics by which one can quantify success or failure in Iraq are NOW POINTING TO SUCCESS! And remember, these are the same stats the Left used to prop up their argument when they were saying we are losing, so no pretending these stats are invalid or not the proper yardstick - that would be what? HYPOCRITICAL.
Nope I didn't. Did your read what I wrote. I did leave out the parts about the media, It wasn't relevant to the point I was making. "Too often, our politicians have been distracted and they have chosen loyalty to their political parties above loyalty to the Constitution because of their lust for power","Congress has failed its job of oversight" There is definitely enough blame to go around.
Based upon your statement "We ... are so glad we have people with integrity in our armed services." Are you questioning the integrity of General Petreaus? And did you accidentally forget the stuff about the media gettin soldiers killed and the other criticisms he leveled at those OTHER THAN BUSH?
Damn Skippy!
