Lobster diving in Florida has two seasons. In order to participate in lobster diving in Florida you must have a salt-water fishing license and purchase a $2.00 lobster permit also known as a crayfish permit. This year the two seasons just happen to be within days of each other.

In order for the lobster to be a legal catch, its carapace, or body, must be three inches long.

The waters around Florida will be patrolled by three different law enforcement agencies during the season to go lobster diving in Florida, so it will be very important for you to be aware of the rules and regulations surrounding the sport of lobster diving. Unless you are using a trap called a bully net to catch your lobsters, you must measure them in the water. Lobsters must remain in one piece no matter what method is used to catch them while you are in or on the water.

The lobsters must be measured with some type of acceptable measuring device. If you are catching lobster with a bully net, then you can measure them in the boat. Be sure you toss the small fry back. You are not allowed to use a spear gun to catch lobsters while lobster diving in Florida, but you may be able to spear a Grouper while your searching for lobsters..

Lobster diving in Florida can be a fun and interesting sport but be sure you follow the rules. Anyone between the ages of 16 and 65 must carry a license with them. Night diving is not permitted in Monroe County and you cannot puncture the "bug's" shell. Diving for lobsters in Florida is more than just about catching the lobster but also it is about having some great times to remember and share during your dinner following.
