Try a Rebounding Workout to Improve Your Health

Rebounding is Surprisingly Fun and Easy and I Know First Hand Its Benefits

Lee Fecteau
I first found out the benefits of rebounding on a radio/podcast available on BeyondHealth.com given by a chemist named Dr. Raymond Francis. He claimed that you can get a great exercise workout by jumping on a rebounder (a small trampoline) for 20 minutes minutes a day. I was skeptical, but intrigued. So I investigated further.

After research on the Internet and reviewing manufacturer literature, I decided to buy one. The one I chose is the Needak brand, although you can choose other brands that have comparable durability and quality. Prior to receiving my rebounder, I was still a bit skeptical, but figured the less than $300 price tag was worth the potential benefits and outweighed the relatively small investment.

I bought the fold-up kind because at the time I needed to store it behind a couch in our living room. Since then we have moved to a larger home so moving it around is no longer necessary, but I still find it convenient if I need to move it temporarily. If you don't have the need to store it in a different place than where you work out it is probably not necessary to spend the extra money (the folding model costs a nominal amount more than the non-folding variety).

Setting up my rebounder for the first time was really easy and self-explanatory even for me who am generally "hardware challenged". I was jumping on it within minutes - or should I say I was shooing my kids away from it within minutes of its arrival. You will find out quickly that children love to jump on the rebounder - perhaps more than you do - at first.

Once the children's initial excitement wears off, you will have more time to do what you bought it for - get a great workout while having fun. And fun it is...even after owning more than 2 years now, I still enjoy getting on my rebounder, but to eliminate the possibility of boredom I watch Netflix movies while on my rebounder.

It seems like the only spare time I have to use my rebounder is before bedtime At first, I was worried that I might not be able to sleep if I jumped on the rebounder before bed but something happened that i did not expect. I take a little longer to get to sleep after a workout, but sleep less deeply and feel more refreshed in the morning and throughout the day. Getting up in the morning is definitely less of "a drag" than it used to be.

According to Dr. Francis, the reason why rebounding works is because the bouncing (gravitational) action improves body cell elasticity, facilitates nutrient delivery and toxin removal in cells throughout the body. I don't fully understand why it works, but it really helps me feel better.

You'll be amazed at how quickly your work will be done without much effort. I have found that I don't have to jump very high or do anything fancy to realize the benefits. All I do is run in place while bouncing about a half foot off the rebounder. I alternate jogging with bouncing with both legs at the same time - again, about a half foot off the rebounder. I really love my rebounder and urge you to consider this awesome exercise routine!

Caveats: There is a maximum weight that these rebounders can handle. Be sure to check the manufacturer recommended maximum specifications to make sure what you buy can handle your weight sufficiently. I have scoliosis (back problems) so have to be very careful when I first start my workout not to strain my back, but I have noticed that the routine is generally very gentle and low impact though.
