Here are the things you should look for and be aware of in the changing room.
The light.
Shops always keep the lights in changing rooms fairly dim, this is much more flattering and, if it's flattering, people buy the clothes!
But when you get these clothes into the cold light of day, they may look very different, ask the assistant if you can take the clothes out to the shop floor, go near the window where you will get the most natural light.
The mirror.
Another trick stores use is to angle their mirrors, they are bent slightly backwards, this makes you appear slimmer!
Whilst it won't make a huge amount of difference, keep t in mind before you decide to buy it.
The fit.
Once you've got the garment on, check the fit in the mirror and then bend your knees, arms, whatever to make sure the garment can cope with it and it doesn't ride up, strain or dig in.
What will you wear it with/over/under?
Think about what you will be wearing it with, if trying on a jumper or coat, what will you wear underneath it; it will need to be big enough to accommodate this.
I recommend buying a size bigger in a coat to accommodate thick jumpers that go underneath.
