Tuberculosis Test Available at Mecklenburg Health Department in Charlotte
A Recent Tuberculosis Scare in Charlotte May Have Caused Many to Head to the Local Health Department
Tuberculosis was brought to the minds of many in the Charlotte area after a local student was confirmed to have TB in December of 2009. The Mecklenburg County Health Department wants people to know there are preventive measures that can be used to avoid tuberculosis. However, anyone who has concerns needs to be tested as this is an infectious disease. If someone has been confirmed to have tuberculosis, anyone who has been in contact with this person must be tested.
Symptoms of TB may include night sweats, coughing, and fever. As these may also be present in other illnesses, it is important to seek medical attention when such symptoms appear. TB may easily be passed from one person to another through sneezing, coughing or breathing near someone who is infected. However, not everyone who comes in contact with an infected person will get TB.
As tuberculosis can be difficult to treat Charlotte residents who are concerned are encouraged to be tested. Because it is easily passed from one person to another, anyone who has a family member with tuberculosis should be tested as quickly as possible.
