Usually I talk about the food and suggest what is best and how everything tastes, but what makes this so easy, is that I only have one recommendation - steak. Tucker's Place specializes in the meat of the gods (if it's not the meat of the gods, I apologize, but it should be!) and they cook it several different ways and styles. You know how I order when I step foot into this place? I close my eyes; do the "eeny meeny miny mo" thing, and wherever my finger stops, that's what I order. I'm serious. From the New York Strip to the Porterhouse, I don't care. They are cooked to perfection, and you could fill up a drink glass with the succulent juices that flow from each bit. Personally, whenever they have it available, I go with the Bourbon Peppercorn steak. Truly heavenly.
While you don't have to be rich to eat at Tucker's Place, be sure to bring your wallet, because the bill will reflect the great food that you just ate. Seriously though, a 16 ounce New York Strip for $20 is not bad at all. Considering the prices of more expensive steak houses in the St. Louis area, this is a very fair price. Dinner for two (including drinks, appetizers, and a tip) shouldn't run you more than $60-$70. Again, this is very affordable, and the lasting impression will be well worth it.
Service wise, there isn't much to say, except - great. Drinks are refilled before you can even look down, and what I like most is that they pay special attention to how you want your steak cooked. Trust me, if you say "medium rare", it's going to be medium rare by the time it gets to you. They realize that when customers come to enjoy a great steak, they want to have perfect so it matches their taste. The serving crew I've encountered at Tucker's Place have always been friendly, courteous, and willing to go the extra mile to make me happy.
I would also like to point out the atmosphere. Personally, I like a nice low light situation, especially when I'm on a date, and this is exactly what you'll find at Tucker's Place. Low level light with a little bit of background noise is extremely relaxing, and can really set the mood for the evening. I hope they never change this, because besides the steak, it's one of the main reasons I enjoy dining there. Also, the parking situation is great, but I must warn you, make reservations or come early, because with the reputation they have, a lot of people love to eat there.
So for a romantic, relaxing night out for good food and great conversation, give Tucker's Place a shot. I'm sure you won't be disappointed.
