At 2:00 pm, at Bentley's Coffee Shop, 1730 E. Speedway, Tucson AZ, the Coffee Party had one of multiple Coffee Party kick-off meetings. Intelligent people from all spheres of life gathered to discuss the political atmosphere that is prevalent today. I joined in this meeting to find out more about this new movement, hoping it wouldn't go the way of the now infamous Tea Party. The Coffee Party, started perhaps a month ago by Annabel Park, is a progressive grass roots political movement, aimed at bringing people together to discuss, in a civilized manner, the political environment and what we, as the people, can do to regain our power.

The meeting was, in my opinion, very productive. Many different people from various walks of life came together to do what we as Americans should be doing; standing up for ourselves, and our rights. The general atmosphere was that of camaraderie and hope; for the future; and for our children's future. There was no yelling, no finger pointing, and no distinction between race, sex, creed, sexual orientation, or income level. All in attendance were treated as equals, and their opinions, thoughts, and feelings, were heard and respected. I truly believe that this is just what our country needs if it is going to survive as a true democracy; true equality.

There were many issues covered, from the negative energy enveloping the current political atmosphere, to the corrupting corporate control that has seized America and its politicians. The general consensus, of the sub-group of which I was a part, was that real change can not take place until we the people are represented by clean, responsible people in the government. It was also stated that we as Americans need to focus more on what we want, as opposed to what we fear.

The Coffee Party, as an organization, seems to be growing quite rapidly. As of this posting the membership of their website, www.coffeepartyusa.com has risen to over 146,000 fans, and there seems to be no end in site. For more information concerning the Coffee Party, please check out the website. I would encourage all people who want to work for change to search the site for a Coffee Party chapter near you. Check it out, go to a meeting, and see if you too may be motivated into using your voice, and making your thoughts known.

Over-all I would say that this meeting was a success and that I for one have been inspired to become an active part of this movement. It is high time we as Americans quit complaining about the government, and start acting to make positive changes; not only for our future, but for the future of generations to come. Look for more articles and updates on the happenings of the Coffee Party in my future posts.
