Across the river from the downtown Wilkes-Barre revitalization is another Northeast PA town getting a facelift. The shopping centers of Edwardsville are not only getting makeovers, but also plenty of new tenants.

Tuesday Morning is perhaps the best-kept secret. And there is a reason you may not have heard about the discounted housewares and gift chain-they don't advertise much through traditional sale ads like other retailers. Instead, they rely heavily on email to get the word out. Shoppers can sign up for the sale notification at the 'eTreasures' kiosk in the store, or by going to the store's website.

I was attracted to Tuesday Morning by the lure of plants and lamps in the window a few weeks back. I never made it into the store, however, until recently. I was impressed at the amount of merchandise. According to the store's corporate website, Tuesday Morning specializes in selling top-quality, famous designer and name brand merchandise 50% to 80% off the regular retail price. One quick walk around the store proves their motto to be factual. Name brands like Laura Ashley, Mikasa, Dansk, Ralph Lauren Polo, DKNY, KitchenAid and Cuisinart were just a few I noticed.

Although a closeout store as well, I felt more like I was in Target or at an outlet than a place like Ollie's or Big Lots. Tuesday Morning had things for every room in the house: bed, bath, kitchen, closet and even the lawn. There was an enormous amount of housewares, probably the largest section in the store. There was cookware, bakeware, serving dishes, stoneware and loads more. There were plenty of fun themed party and serving sets that would make perfect gifts.

Tuesday Morning also sells loads of baskets, picture albums, candles (even Yankee candles for as low as $7.99), toys, audio books, cook books, gift wrapping, cards, scrapbooking supplies and too much more to even write here. I found myself lost in the purse and totebag aisle.

For less than $38, I walked away with a set of five stainless steel mixing bowls, a baking pan and a London Fog raincoat. (Had it not been such a dreary day on my visit, I probably wouldn't have been compelled to purchase the slicker, which was originally priced at $80.00.) I almost bought a Cuisinart Panini Press for $29.99, marked down from $60.

I wasn't the only one finding bargains. Dick Murphy and Donna Salerno were taking a Sunday drive when Salerno noticed flowers in the window display. She was on the hunt for flora for her mother, so she stopped in.

"I was surprised at what they have," she said, showing off a Cuisanart hand mixer for $19.99 she planned to buy. "These are brand names."

Murphy added, "It's good stuff, not junk."

No matter what time of day, or what day of the week, Tuesday Morning is a perfect place to shop for hot items when on a budget.

There are about 790 Tuesday Morning locations in the United States, according the corporate website. To find out if there is a Tuesday Morning near you, click here.

Oddly enough, I rarely find anything at ours. I do think its lack of organization has something to do with that. My mind doesn't deal with disorganization very well.

It is a cool place to shop though a bit disorganized.
