Tulsa, Oklahoma's Famous Celebrity Biker Fox

Missy Slink
Every town has their eccentrics, and Tulsa, Oklahoma is no exception. For the residents of Tulsa, sighting their most "famous" resident out in public is a bit of a game. Commonly known as "Biker Fox," this eccentric character can be spotted all over the Tulsa metropolitan area sporting brightly colored spandex while cruising around on his bicycle. While a bit of mystery surrounds Biker Fox's life, much of what people know about this local Tulsan character is from his website. The web page is about as off the chart as Biker Fox himself, with brightly colored fonts, small animations of a dancing Biker Fox, and photos of feeding raccoons-all of which provide a great sample of this Tulsa personality.

Although most Tulsans only ever know Biker Fox by his "celebrity" name, Biker Fox's true name is Frank DeLarzelere (as revealed by his website). He is famous for cruising all around town on his mountain bike, often shaking his rump as honking cars or hollering drivers. Besides the joy of spotting him (often on Memorial or in other south Tulsa areas), Biker Fox -viewers are occasionally treated to a special Biker Fox bicycle trick. The Fox claims to be the first person to execute a front flip on a bicycle or motorcycle of any kind; additionally, his other common bicycling tricks include performing wheelies right down the median of a road or in the middle of the intersection.

Besides biking, Biker Fox has many other passions in life. He advocates for taking good care of the environment, as well as respecting those who serve in the United States Armed Forces. Biker Fox is also quick to acknowledge that biking is a great way to stay in shape and he encourages other local Tulsans to follow his example and use biking as a means of transportation more often. Perhaps most recently Biker Fox experienced new found fame through the premiering of a documentary film on him and his lifestyle. The 86 minute movie provides Tulsans with a look into the mind and motivations of this colorful (literally!) character who has won the hearts of many. The Biker Fox movie was well received by the audiences this summer; it won the Tulsa United Film Festival's "Best Documentary" audience award for the summer of 2010, as well as several other awards from other film festivals.

For visitors to and residents of the Tulsa, Oklahoma area, Biker Fox sightings will continue to brighten up any day. This local celebrity will be sure to make his fans laugh at his often dangerous bicycling tricks, and laughter is what Biker Fox works to spread around his local Tulsan community.

Without spandex, even those foxes would not look as good! Me... I look a lot better with my clothes on!
