Tumble Dryers and Spinning Dryers - Deciding Which One to Buy!

William B. Brandon
Back in the old days, the drying of clothes was a serious problem. Hanging them out to dry is a manual chore that can end up taking you a very long time. An additional problem was that the sun didn't shine all year long.

Now that we have drying machines, the drying of clothes has become a lot easier indeed. There are many types of dryers on the market. Dryers come in vented and condensing form. But you've also got spin dryers and tumble dryers.

So what exactly is the difference between a spin dryer and a tumble dryer? The first one spins clothes around and gets the water out using nothing but centrifugal force. The second one tumbles clothes around in its heated interior.

The advantage that a spinner has over a tumbler, is that it uses hardly any electricity in comparison to the tumbler. The tumbling machine is known to be one of the most energy thirsty household appliances known to man. It uses much energy to heat up its interior.

The advantage that a tumbler has over a dryer, is that it can do its job much faster than the spinner. This is because all the heat that it generates does a really great job at getting water out wet clothes. It takes longer with centrifugal force.

Some people use a spin dryer and a tumble dryer in combination with each other. When you spin your clothes for only a few minutes before you put them in the tumbler, you drastically reduce the tumbling time. This saves a lot of energy.

With the economy being what it is and so many people looking to save a buck, more people are now opting for spin dryers. They may take very long to dry clothes, but at least they only use very little energy.

When deciding on a good spin dryer for your home, it is best to go for one which has a high number of rotations per minute. Somewhere above the 3000 mark is best. Such a spinner dries much faster than a machine with only 2500 rotations.
