Tummy Tucks Scars and Their Impact on the Body

Dana Slyman
Tummy tuck surgery definitely leaves scars on the abdominal area. Most of the time, regular attire will cover them so they are not exposed. During summer months while swimming or tanning, it is hard to hide them from others. Tummy tuck scars are permanent and hard to get rid of. These scars will be clearly visible for up to a period of 9-12 months following the surgery. Eventually, these scars will slowly start to fade away on their own.

Mini tummy tuck surgery will leave a scar slightly above to the pubis. The standard or full tummy tuck surgery will leave this scar in "U" or "W" shape just above the belly button. All surgeons will keep an album with photos of the scars and may also have photos of faded scars as well. This photos will be shown to the patient prior to the surgery.

In some cases, there may be a possibility to limit thesetummy tuck scars. Consult your surgeon in advance prior to surgery about the possibilities in minimizing these scars. Some surgeons will suggest tropical steroid solutions and creams. Applying these creams for a certain period of time following the surgery will help in minimizing the scarring effect significantly. These creams are usually applied for 6 weeks after the surgery will help scars to fade fast so they will be less visible.

Time is the best healing medicine for the all tummy tuck scars. Getting rid of these scars permanently, is not possible. Slowly, with time, these scars will fade from visibility. Still there are many special plastic surgeries available to get rid of these scars. All of these procedures consume your time and money but are well worth it if you are happy with your results. It is always best to feel good about the results incurred through tummy tuck surgery, rather than to worry about these scars. These scars will eventually fade with time.
