How to Create Turkey Crafts

Create DIY turkey crafts that are as easy as they are fun!

As the Thanksgiving season approaches, pull out your turkey crafts to start creating cute and innovative crafts to decorate your house. Kids love working with their hands making these budget friendly crafts perfect. These crafts make wonderful fall gifts for family and friends. Better yet, make a couple extra for your own house.

Before you prepare to do the turkey craft with your children, talk to them about Thanksgiving. This holiday is not just about turkey and gravy, but how our country began. This is a fun story to talk about and your children will love hearing about the Pilgrims and Wampahoag Indians.

Thanksgiving Pots

What you need:

Clay pot

Construction paper

Markers

Craft Glue

Scissors

Wiggle Eyes

Directions:

This is such a fun craft for the entire family. To start, take the construction paper and cut out turkey feathers. You can make several for more colorful turkey. For the turkey head, you will want to cut out a brown body for the turkey. This will be glued onto the front of the clay pot.

Once all the pieces are cut out, now the fun begins. Let the child decorate the turkey feathers with makers. This is very hands on and allows the children to imagine what the turkey would look like. Once they are done, glue each piece to the back of the clay pot. You can use tacky glue if the craft glue doesn't hold well.

Next, you want to create the turkey's head. Take the cut out brown construction paper and let the child glue the wiggle eyes on the body of the turkey. Next, they can use markers to create the turkey face. Once they are finished, glue the turkey's body to the clay pot. Allow to dry.

NOTE: You can fill the clay pot with candy or leave empty.

Acorn Turkey

What you need:

Acorn

Construction Paper

Glue

Markers

Small piece of clay

Directions:

This is a small craft so be prepared to squint. For the top of the acorn, you want to create a turkey head. Use whichever color of construction paper you like, and then cut out a rounded circle for the turkey head. Next, you want to cut out the turkey feathers. Use whichever colors you or your child like best. Glue the feathers to the back of the acorn, so the acorn looks like a turkey. To finish off the acorn turkey, you want to sit the acorn onto the piece of clay. Do this gently, and allow drying.

Turkey Goodie Jar

What you need:

Construction paper

Leaves from outside

Craft glue or tacky glue

Directions:

First take an old jar. This could be something such as a pickle bottle. Now clean thoroughly and dry before using. Cut out the construction paper you want to cover the bottle. Let your child decorate completely with markers. For Thanksgiving, they can create a turkey. Now take the pieces of construction paper and cover the bottle completely. You will need to apply glue to the back of the construction paper or onto the bottle. Next, you want to add leaves onto the bottle. Apply glue to the back of the leaf and press onto the construction paper. This gives the turkey goodie jar a seasonal look. Let the jar dry completely before using.

Happy Turkey Bowl

What you need:

Clean butter tub

Construction paper

Craft glue

Brown, red, yellow construction paper

Paper clips (if necessary)

Scissors

Crayons, markers, or pencils

Directions:

This is such a quick and easy craft. You want to use a clean butter tub that has been washed and dried. Once you have this, set aside. Next, you want to create your turkey feathers. You will want to cut out colored feathers for the back of the turkey. For both sides of the turkey, use the brown construction paper to create the wings. For the body of the turkey, also use the brown construction paper.

Once the feathers, wings, and body of the turkey have been cut out, you can now begin decoration the turkey. Allow the children to decorate the wings, feathers, and body according to their imagination. Each turkey will be different. That's fine. Once they've are finished decorating, you want to glue onto the butter tub. First, take each feather and glue to the back of the butter tub. Next, you want to glue each wing onto either side of the butter tub. Finally, you want to add the turkey's head to the front of the butter tub. If your feathers are struggling to stay up, use the paper clips to hold them together. You can also push a book up against the butter tub to hold the feathers in place.
