Turkey Crafts for Preschool Age Children

Help you preschooler celebrate the star of Thanksgiving by creating these easy and adorable turkey crafts.

Turkey Refrigerator Art

This turkey is one step up in difficulty from the traditional traced hand turkey but it is at least twice as cute. Your kids will especially love getting their hands messy to make this adorable turkey for your fridge.

Materials: washable tempera paint or finger paint, paintbrushes, construction paper, markers, wet wipes

Directions

Paint the palm and thumb of your child's hand brown and each of his fingers a different color. Let him make a handprint on the construction paper. Clean off hands with wet wipes. When the paint is dry, use the markers to add details to the turkey and a landscape around it, if desired.

Turkey Placemat

Your child will love using this colorful placemat throughout the month of November just as much as she enjoyed making it.

Materials: Oversized construction paper, washable tempera paint, sponges, contact paper, markers

Directions: Cut a side profile of a turkey out of brown construction paper and glue it onto an oversized piece of construction paper. Add eyes and a beak with markers or small pieces of construction paper. Cut the sponges into feather shapes and use the tempera paint to stamp the turkey feathers onto the turkey.Let the feathers dry and cover the placemat completely with contact paper.

Turkey Centerpiece

This turkey is simpler than it looks. It is also a welcome addition to any Thanksgiving table. Place this turkey on your own table or bring it as a gift to the hosts of your Thanksgiving dinner. Plan on prepping the project at least a half an hour before your preschooler completes the project since the glue needs to be completely dry before the project is completed.

Materials: One large russet potato, toothpicks, multi-colored feathers from a craft store, googly eyes, yellow raffia, craft glue, construction paper

Directions: Wash and let the potato dry completely. Meanwhile, cut a turkey head from brown construction paper and a beak from orange construction paper and a red teardrop shape from red construction paper. Attach the head to a toothpick and let dry. Let your child add the eyes and beak. Use a toothpick to make holes one end of the potato. Fit the feathers into the holes. Put head on the other end of the potato. Set the completed turkey into a nest of yellow raffia.
