Once the holiday meal is over there is always left- over turkey meat. It is stored in the refrigerator and another meal is presented to the family. Soon everyone is tired of turkey. And it has nothing to do with the tryptophan in the bird.
This recipe requires a quick trip to the grocery store. Pass through Winona to the SuperValu and pick up two cans and your shopping trip is complete. You'll need one can of basic sloppy joe and one can of Manwich. Hurry home and start dinner.
Ingredients:
- Left-over turkey, shredded (skin removed)
- 1 can of sloppy joe
- 1 can of Manwich
- ¼ cup of sweet BBQ sauce
- 1 teaspoon of garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon of onion powder
- ¼ teaspoon of salt
- 1/8 teaspoon of pepper
- Swiss cheese slices
- Hamburger buns
Directions:
- Once home de-bone the turkey.
- Shred the turkey meat and place it in a large frying pan.
- Empty the two cans you just purchased over the shredded turkey.
- Add ¼ cup of sweet BBQ sauce to the frying pan. ( From experience Sonny's BBQ sauce from Sam's Club provides the best flavor combination to make this dish exceptional. )
- Stir all the contents up in the frying pan so all the turkey meat is covered by the sauces and mixed completely.
- Cover frying pan and turn heat up to medium.
- Cook for 15 minutes.
- Stir the turkey mixture and re-cover the frying pan.
- Lower heat to a simmer and allow to cook until hot; about 1 hour.
- Stir turkey mixture every 15 minutes.
- With only 15 minutes left on the clock, add the salt, pepper, onion and garlic powder. Stir again and let cook the remaining time.
- Turn stove off.
- Place a ladle full on hamburger buns.
- Add a slice of Swiss cheese on top and the sloppy joe turkey sliders are ready to serve up to your family.
- Enjoy!
Suggestions:
- Dinner rolls, potato rolls or Kaiser rolls can be used in lieu of hamburger buns.
- Serve with a garden salad and your meal is complete. An easy, quick dinner that allows you to make use of all that left-over turkey.
- These sloppy joe turkey sliders are so good no one will even know they are eating turkey again. These sandwiches have the texture of eating turkey but the taste is so unique no one will be sure what was included in the sandwich. All they will know is it tastes great and will be looking for seconds.
